How do we navigate these relationships where the words and the actions or behaviors don’t line up. One of the biggest obstacle I face in relationships is I believe the words and then what follows is a series of behaviors that paint a very different picture. Then a confronting happens and we are left with “he said”, “she said” and no in roads to build intimacy in the relationship. If I look to the relationship I have with the Lord, I see how He confronts every obstacle that prevents intimacy in our relationship. Jesus is very aware of how His actions impact me. He considers me in every encounter, and He knows how I will be impacted. I in turn want Him to be the object of my love and I consider how He will be impacted by my decisions. Consideration is the highest form of love, as it considers not its own but the welfare of the object of His love. So we navigate relationships as Jesus does and when we begin to hear excuses from the object of our love, I didn’t realize this decision would hurt you, or not even considering you as they make decisions that will impact you. The person who respects you will honor the impact their decision have on you. Hold yourself responsible and please hold the other person responsible for not respecting you in this relationship. So we guard our heart by holding ourselves responsible for not letting disrespectful relationships in our lives.
I can’t make you respect me, respect comes from your intimacy with the Lord. Even as I write this, I see how my pain and frustration has pulled me away from considering the object of my love~Jesus. Because others don’t respect and honor me shouldn’t shake my consideration and love for Him. When we take our eyes off of the responsibility we have to our relationships especially abiding to the head, then confusion and self pity run rampant. This is the very definition the issues of life. Living a life of self pity prevents us from seeing the absolute beauty of our lives. I have a few relationships now where we are encouraging each other in the absolute beauty the Lord has given us!! We are guarding our hearts and the issues of our lives have such a beautiful hue..
